Thompson's Two Cents Don't Buy Fear I Got A Better Idea By Larry Thompson October 16, 2025 The market is LOUD right now. That’s not typical of a healthy bull market. Bull markets are smooth as volatility quiets down, breadth expands, and money flows with less resistance. What we’re seeing now is the opposite.Just take a look at the VIX - the market’s measure of expected volatility over the next 30 days. When volatility spikes like this, people start feeling the urge to be a hero, to call the bottom, buy the dip, or “fade the fear.” The problem is, we’re still in the middle of it. We don’t know where the end is. No one does. The best way to find the end is through price itself. Either through capitulation (a blow-off panic) or resolution (stabilization and strength). This is the messy middle. The part where money made on the way up often gets handed back because traders force trades that aren’t there.Don’t play that game.Take a step back and wait for the easier pitches. Because the money you make when the market is calm spends the same as the money made when it’s chaotic. The VIX above 20 tells us fear is present. And despite what you’ll hear from contrarians online, fear itself isn’t bullish. What’s bullish is the reversion from fear. When volatility starts to cool off. When panic gives way to stability. When things stop getting worse. And we're just not there yet.Anyways, that’s my two cents. All Gas No Brakes | Ep. 4This week is All Gas No Brakes - my favorite show to run.It was originally meant to be a once-a-month show. That’s it.Set a reminder, catch it live, or watch the replay on YouTube.
